She’s now playing it. I wish I could answer more of her questions, but it’s ages since I last played.

Not one of the best characters based on first impressions.

Super Smash Bros Melee http://inverty.com/2006/05/16/super-smash-bros-melee/ http://inverty.com/2006/05/16/super-smash-bros-melee/#comments Tue, 16 May 2006 19:31:00 +0000 That Rev Chap http://inverty.com/?p=662 Started this up for the first time about five years or so. My TV refuses to believe it’s not widescreen, but it looks okay anyway.

Started as Yoshi because I remember liking him. Ran through the Classic single player mode on Very Easy, which lived up to its name once I’d remembered how to control the game.

Tried the Home Run mini-game, but only got 42 feet. Which is a bit less than my record of 1,539 feet. No idea how that game works any more.

Noticed I didn’t seem to have the Marth trophy yet, so leapt in and did Classic mode with him… and then unlocked a new character, Roy, at the end of it!

That was unexpectedly productive. Cool.

It’s great fun, too. Well worth digging out from the back of the games cupboard.

Mega Man Anniversary Edition http://inverty.com/2006/04/28/mega-man-anniversary-edition-2/ http://inverty.com/2006/04/28/mega-man-anniversary-edition-2/#comments Fri, 28 Apr 2006 19:53:00 +0000 That Rev Chap http://inverty.com/?p=586 Jumped forward to Mega Man 8 this evening. I seem to have done one level before, so I tried another. And another. And another. And another. In fact, I tried all four that were open to me. Only got through to one boss – Tengu Man – and couldn’t kill him. After upgrading my charged shot I managed to get him to about two-thirds health at one point, but that was the best I did.

Still, it’s a pretty good game. A bit too busy at times, making it less precise than the first game, and the side-scrolling and snow boarding bits I found were a bit rubbish, but I still had fun.

Hooray for Mega Man!

I’ve got Virtua Tennis and Burnout Legends to trade in towards Mega Man Powered Up tomorrow.

Mega Man Anniversary Edition http://inverty.com/2006/04/27/mega-man-anniversary-edition/ http://inverty.com/2006/04/27/mega-man-anniversary-edition/#comments Thu, 27 Apr 2006 21:08:00 +0000 That Rev Chap http://inverty.com/?p=583 I’ve been really wanting to get Mega Man Powered Up for the PSP. Bit odd, as I’ve never really played Mega Man games. It just sounds so packed full of great stuff – challenges! level designer! downloadable designed levels! – and looks so nice. And it doesn’t hurt that I’m full of PSP love at the moment.

Anyway, I’ve been trying to stop myself from getting it and realised today that I have Mega Man Anniversary Collection for the Gamecube, which I’ve hardly played at all. Mega Man is on there and Mega Man Powered Up is a remake of that game, so I should play Mega Man, realise I don’t like it much and be at peace.

See?

Except… I’ve just lost my evening to the bloody game. It’s ace. I barely got three screens in last time I played, or something, but this evening I’ve finished two levels and seen the boss on a third. It’s lovely stuff. With cool graphics, more stuff and sound effects that don’t drive me insane, the PSP version is now a definite must buy.

Shit. I hate it when that happens.

I also gave Mega Man 2 a quick go out of curiousity. Seems to be more of the same but – gulp – possibly even harder.

Best Games Ever http://inverty.com/2006/01/13/best-games-ever/ http://inverty.com/2006/01/13/best-games-ever/#comments Fri, 13 Jan 2006 21:25:00 +0000 That Rev Chap http://inverty.com/?p=291 I just had to make a list of my top ten favourite games of all time. It looks like this -

10. Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)

Online and girlfriend loves it and we can play it together. Which makes it special. And I’ve played it every day since I got it.

9. Mr Driller: Drill Spirits (DS)

Best (English language) Mr Driller. Drill Land might take the spot if it was out in English.

8. Resident Evil 4 (GC)

Well, just because it’s ace. It’s as good as all the other RE games are bad. Put together. Which is very good indeed.

7. World of Warcraft (PC)

Because it’s given me some of my best gaming moments ever… And I just realised today how much I love the graphics.

6. ICO (PS2)

Haunting, atmospheric, etc. Colossus might challenge it, but I’ve not finished that yet. Maybe next year.

5. OutRun 2 (XBOX)

I hope this will be chucked out of the top ten soon when Coast to Coast is released. But for now, this is the best racing game in the world… by a fairly long way. (It was a very long way before PGR3 came out.)

4. Mario 64 (N64)

Loved it then. Love it still. But it’s losing a place a year (roughly) because it’s not aging very well.

3. GTA: San Andreas (PS2)

Best setting, best map, best features, best everything.

2. Elder Scrolls: Morrowind GOTY (PC)

Life eater.Played the Xbox version a lot, too, but the PC version is better. Could be another game to be replaced soon by a sequel. But Oblivion could be broken and shite, so maybe not.

1. Doom (PC)

Genius that hasn’t aged in anything but graphics. Gameplay, level design, feel… it’s still all there. BEST. GAME. EVER.

Right yes. Something like that… maybe. But I want Giga Wing in there, too. And Halo 2. And a Castlevania… And the GC 1080. And KOTOR… And…
