I went in and did the first time trial in the career and got a silver trophy.

Couldn’t face a three race series so went and investigated the online options, which I’ve never tried before.

Maybe I’m just a bit dim, but it was all rather confusing. I had a choice of a couple of leagues, but I tried the first one and it wouldn’t let me do a race because I hadn’t unlocked that track in the single player game, so that was out.

Tried a second league and that let me play. I set times on three tracks – having to wait patiently for a timer to tick down between each race – then at the end I went into the Season Stats page and it showed me that I’d finished fourth in the league. I think that was the end, but there wasn’t a big ending screen with my results or anything, just that page. When I went it again the league was back in progress, though, I’m not sure what’s going on.

Like I said, I think I’m just being a bit dim, but I’ll stick to the single player stuff for now, I reckon.

This game is fantastic! Why don’t I play it more often?

I mean, I knew it was great. I’ve played it before, I’m quite happy to recommend it everyone and anyone, but I haven’t actually been playing it.

But why? I’ve just had a few lunchtime races and it’s absolutely brilliant. It controls perfectly, it looks gorgeous, it’s always tense, always exciting, there’s a great sense of speed – everything you need in a racing game.

So why has it been weeks since I last had a go?

Real Racing (iPhone) http://inverty.com/2009/07/30/real-racing-iphone-2/ http://inverty.com/2009/07/30/real-racing-iphone-2/#comments Thu, 30 Jul 2009 08:37:00 +0000 That Rev Chap http://inverty.com/?p=2559 I’ve turned the braking assistance off. Completely.

This now means I do very well on tracks I know well, pretty well on tracks I’m somewhat familiar with and really, really badly on tracks I don’t know at all. The actual driving mechanics and controls I’m pretty comfortable with now, so it’s all about driving well. Which is how it should be, of course.

This really is a very, very good game. I’m not sure why I’m not playing it more than I am.

Real Racing (iPhone) http://inverty.com/2009/07/29/real-racing-iphone/ http://inverty.com/2009/07/29/real-racing-iphone/#comments Wed, 29 Jul 2009 08:26:00 +0000 That Rev Chap http://inverty.com/?p=2554 Gave this a try last night after downloading it a couple of days ago. It’s really very good, based on first impressions. At the beginning of the game I was swerving all over the shop, but changing to the in-car view and getting used to the controls helped a lot. Now I just need to decide on where to put the auto-brake slider. I’ve got it about half-way down at the moment and I’m trying to train myself to brake manually before tight corners.

I haven’t played it a huge amount yet, so I can’t talk about it in detail. I’m not sure it’s the second coming or anything, but I can already see that it’s definitely one of the best games on the iPhone and is just in a completely different class to that Ferrari GT game I tried the other day. Mind you, it should be given that it costs ten times more than the Ferrari game.
