Annoyingly, according to my stats screen, there’s still one gas station I’ve not found. I wonder where that could be?

Burnout Paradise (360) http://inverty.com/2009/05/01/burnout-paradise-360-5/ http://inverty.com/2009/05/01/burnout-paradise-360-5/#comments Fri, 01 May 2009 07:32:00 +0000 That Rev Chap http://inverty.com/?p=2297 Spent some time trying out three of the legendary cars. They’re fun. I love the General Lee… sorry, Cavalry Bootlegger. It’s got the correct horn noise and everything. Perfect for doing huge jumps. I won a few more events, too, so I’m getting close to getting my A-class licence.

I wish I could remember how the stunt stuff works, though. I’m having real trouble with that. I’m not sure if there are extra controls when you’re in the air, or if it’s just a question of hitting jump after jump, or something else. Got some great takedowns with the Nighthawk, mind. I think Road Rage events are probably my favourite.

Bombed around, jumped through some billboards, failed a Road Rage event, had a great time. (Even though it kept popping up messages telling me how good Dimrill is at the game at every opportunity.)

Burnout Paradise (360) http://inverty.com/2009/04/29/burnout-paradise-360-3/ http://inverty.com/2009/04/29/burnout-paradise-360-3/#comments Wed, 29 Apr 2009 07:46:00 +0000 That Rev Chap http://inverty.com/?p=2290 I traded this in over a year ago, then missed it greatly. Only now has it become cheap enough for me to get a new copy. I downloaded the 1.7 update during the day, so it was ready for me to go in the evening. It felt great to be back, it really did. I tried out the bikes – which I think I love – then jumped back into a car and did a few races. Won a few, then lost one after the AI shunted me down a side road going completely the wrong way.

I wish I understood Burning Routes better. I get the concept, but I’m never sure what the point of them is, or the exact difference between online and offline times are. I’m sure it’s very simple, but I’m not very bright.

Also, the moment it started up it gave me an Achievement called “Watt?” before I’d even started playing, so I need to go and check what that was about.

Burnout Paradise (360) http://inverty.com/2008/02/03/burnout-paradise-360-2/ http://inverty.com/2008/02/03/burnout-paradise-360-2/#comments Sun, 03 Feb 2008 17:23:00 +0000 That Rev Chap http://inverty.com/?p=1535 I’m half-way through my B licence now. I might have got further, but I keep just driving around aimlessly. Well, not quite aimlessly. There’s still one gas station I’ve not found and I’d really like to find it. I’ve no idea where it could be.

Just before turning off the game I got the Parallel Parking Achievement, which was surprisingly easy. Either that or I fluked it.

Burnout Paradise (360) http://inverty.com/2008/02/02/burnout-paradise-360/ http://inverty.com/2008/02/02/burnout-paradise-360/#comments Sat, 02 Feb 2008 16:57:00 +0000 That Rev Chap http://inverty.com/?p=1533 This is great, but I’m having trouble with the online side of things. I’ve not even tried to play online yet, but the leaderboards seem to take an age to update, I can’t seem to find world-wide boards (just friends only), I’ve had several “Can’t connect to Burnout Paradise server” messages and once the game just got stuck on a “Connecting to Burnout Paradise server” screen and I had to leap back to the dashboard and restart.

Other than that it’s almost all good. The only real problem with the single player mode is navigation. The only reason I ever lose a race is because I’ve taken a wrong turn, which is very easy to do at high speed. Also, I miss Crash mode. Showtime is fun (and I soundly beat SomethingWitty on one road), but it’s no substitute.

So, it’s a new Burnout, then. Which means having a whole host of complaints about things they’ve changed and EA’s servers. Give it a while and everyone will consider it a classic… just in name for the next Burnout out to come along and start the cycle over again.

Burnout 3 (360) http://inverty.com/2008/01/27/burnout-3-360-3/ http://inverty.com/2008/01/27/burnout-3-360-3/#comments Sun, 27 Jan 2008 15:43:00 +0000 That Rev Chap http://inverty.com/?p=1527 Compact Grand Prix done, I’ve worked my way through Muscle class and now I’m in the CoupĂ© class. And then a few Crash events to polish off the session. Dessert, I guess. I’ve said it before, but it needs saying again – this game is so much better when you know what you’re getting beforehand. The racing is tight and exciting, takedowns are always satisfying and Crash mode is compulsive, despite being slightly more science than art.

Burnout 3 (360) http://inverty.com/2008/01/20/burnout-3-360-2/ http://inverty.com/2008/01/20/burnout-3-360-2/#comments Sun, 20 Jan 2008 14:30:00 +0000 That Rev Chap http://inverty.com/?p=1520 This game really, really is a lot better when it’s not played under a crushing weight of disappointment.

I tried to force myself to do some racing today, but caught up in Crash mode again. I’m trying to get Golds on all of them and it’s great fun, even with the multipliers. Far more of a puzzle game than Burnout 2′s Crash mode. I’d love the best of both worlds, some game with hundreds of Crash junctions, high score tables in the right place and a mix of multiplier and multiplier-free levels.

Burnout 3 (360) http://inverty.com/2008/01/19/burnout-3-360/ http://inverty.com/2008/01/19/burnout-3-360/#comments Sat, 19 Jan 2008 14:52:00 +0000 That Rev Chap http://inverty.com/?p=1518 The worst great game of all time, definitely. It’s got the worst interface of all time and I still can’t figure out how they got it so wrong. The difficulty curve is strange and burning lap events are much harder than anything else in the game. However, the actual game part of the game is great. The graphics have dated a little, but the fun hasn’t. It’s also a lot more palatable now than it was on release simply because all the flaws are known and don’t keep coming as horrible surprises. Well worth a download.

Burnout Legends (PSP) http://inverty.com/2007/02/15/burnout-legends-psp/ http://inverty.com/2007/02/15/burnout-legends-psp/#comments Thu, 15 Feb 2007 22:35:00 +0000 That Rev Chap http://inverty.com/?p=989 I thought I’d try this again. I seem to remember I felt it sucking away my soul last time I tried it, but it now seems pretty good. Nasty slowdown and it doesn’t quite feel precise enough, but it’s pretty good fun. I worked my way all through the Muscle Car series of races happily enough.

However, with TOCA arriving tomorrow (if the Royal Mail do their thing) I doubt it’ll get much play after tonight.
