Final Fantasy IV
Hmm, this is tricky. Tricky, tricky, tricky.
You see, there are these Yellow Jelly monsters that appear in groups of four. They don’t do much damage, but they can only be hurt by magical attacks. There’s only one person in my party who can do that sort of magic and she’s only got a limited number of magic points to spend.
Normally in a Final Fantasy I’d stock up on Ether, which recovers magic points, and we’d be all set. But there’s only one town I can get to this early in the game and it doesn’t sell Ether.
So I’m getting so far into the dungeon and these slimes appear and I’m all out of magic and there’s nothing I can see to do but turn off the Micro and try again. There doesn’t even seem to be any way to run away from a battle. That might be possible with a long button press, or something, but I’ll have to wait until this evening and check the manual to find that out.
Still, makes the bus journey fly by. Nearly missed my stop because of some pesky goblins this morning.

“Nearly missed my stop because of some pesky goblins this morning.”
Now, that’s a quote you don’t hear every day … :-)

are you in antlion’s lair? that’s the only place i can think of where you’d only have one magic user (rydia). if you’re running out of magic points in there then something is wrong – rydia shouldn’t be your main damage dealer, rather cecil should. also, what level is rydia? if she doesn’t have the spell warp then you need to level her up some.

That’s where I am.
Cecil normally does most damage, but on yellow jellies his normal attack does 1 point and Dark does nothing at all.

i’m just saying that you should be saving rydia’s magic for offensive only (no curing) and even then rarely, such as slimes. as you know, you can only kill the jellies fast with thunder (all of the jellies, except for pink and grey ones you find much later on, are weak to the color that they are) – one hit should kill them..
to run from battle you hold down l&r – you will see your people running in-place towards the opposite direction.
also, you do know that magic spells can be cast on all the enemies, not just one at a time? just keep hitting left and you should see the cursor on all (same goes for cures on your own party). some people don’t know this, so i just thought i’d bring it up.
this cave is pretty short and has a save in it, so you should be able to make it there without problems.
