Final Fantasy I
First death! I got to a boss in the Earth Shrine and he fucked me. Badly. Stupid Thunderbolt attack does more damage than I can keep up with, even with Floss on full time mana-no-object healing duties. It was a long, long battle and I thought I was going to make it, but I lost Arnold. I risked taking a turn away from healing everyone else to revive him, which was a mistake. Two Thunderbolt attacks came quickly and they just destroyed me.
I never normally play games on the bus or at work, but I’ve done both today. Will this be the first Final Fantasy game I ever actually complete?

This is my holiday game, but I’ve started it early. Sue me. I’d forgotten how fantastic the opening section is – it’s been over ten years, after all – but it really throws you into the game and generates a real sense of urgency. It’s a shame that the game’s very much of its time

I’ve played a lot of Final Fantasy games, but the only one I’ve completed is the first. (Though I completed the Gameboy Advance version, rather than the NES original.) It was released last night on the iPhone and I bought it, despite the relatively steep £5.49 price, because I’m dying to play through it again.

You need to get your caster to cast nullshock on you – it’s essential. Later final fantasies had the wonderful reflect spell, which just chucked the damage straight back at the enemies, but you have to work around that here :) Nullshock everyone, ‘haste’ as many as you can, and just keep hitting the bugger :)
