Civilization Revolution (DS)
Apr 25th
Being on holiday means I managed to play an entire game in one sitting yesterday morning. Only on Chieftan, but I rather like the stress-free life of an all-powerful leader. I was the Russians and won a cultural difficulty. I kept democracy from early in the game, only fighting when other civs declared war on me. It’s growing on me quite a lot, this game.
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (DS)

Played quite a lot of this in the end. Made a cool £20,000 on a coke deal, delivered some noodles, bought a hearse, that sort of thing. The most annoying thing right now is that I think I’ve managed to buy all but one safe house, but can’t find another for sale anywhere on the map.
Advance Wars: Days of Ruin (DS)
Apr 23rd
Thought I was in a strategy kind of mood, so ignored story mode and started up a battle on the first available map. Played a few turns, but I’ve completely forgotten how to play and found the AI was slaughtering me. Well, okay, that might be a bit strong – it started gradually pushing me back after a tussle in the centre of the map. It was enough for me to turn off in disgust, though. I just wasn’t really feeling it yesterday, I suppose.
Mr Driller: Drill Spirits (DS)
Apr 23rd
So, I set myself up with new games aplenty and what do I end up playing on the first proper day of my holiday? Old stuff. Mr Driller, for example, though I kept turning it off in disgust at my rubbishness, then back on a few minutes later.
Phantasy Star Portable (PSP)

I hate the story missions, by the way. Too much talking, not enough killing things. Much prefer just doing free missions over and over again. Weren’t the levels randomly generated in PSO? In this they always appear to be exactly the same.
Pokemon Platinum (DS)

Having some trouble with the third gym. Don’t have anything very good against ghost types.
GTA IV: The Lost and Damned (360)

A few more missions done, which are tying a lot more into Niko’s storyline – and not always in ways I approve of.
Still BEST GAME EVER though.
GTA IV: The Lost and Damned (360)
Apr 20th
Did a couple more missions this morning. (Being on holiday for the win!) Had to deal with some traitors, which was easy enough, then had to go and deal with a drugs convoy at a toll booth. That took quite a few tries, as I wasn’t quite sure what I was doing or the best way to approach things. Once I worked out a strategy I did it with ease, though. I like that, actually. It’s not all just firing away blindly, I really needed a plan. And when that plan came together, I loved it.
Civilization Revolution (DS)

Finished off the game I was playing. It was only on Chieftan, so after a while I just decided to get a domination victory and proceeded to wipe everyone else off the map with ease. It’s awkward to control and I find it impossible to keep a mental map of what exactly the world looks like, but it’s certainly more playable than I thought.
Pokemon Platinum (DS)

I love it when you have exactly the right Pokemon for a gym. After setting up a secret base underground I went to the second gym and breezed through it, only using one Pokemon the whole time. Had some trouble in Team Galactic headquarters after that, but I’ve got through it now.
