Metroid Prime Hunters
May 3rd
I’ve just tried the first boss three more times.
Can’t do it. Can get the energy bar about half-way down, but that’s it.
It’s a stupid difficulty spike.
I don’t understand Metroid games. People love them but I’ve never found one that’s not rubbish.
I think I might just give up on this one, to be honest.
Hitman Contracts
May 3rd
What with Blood Money coming out later this month, I thought it was time I gave Contracts a go.
Went into the training level first, but it was very odd and I didn’t understand it, so I left and started the main game. Found myself in an asylum full of dead bodies that looked just like me. I had to escape. After a fair few deaths I managed to get out with a Shadow rating. I killed three innocents – I didn’t know! – and three policemen.
It’s got the same problem I’ve always had with the Hitman games, which is that I’m never sure quite what the rules are. When does a disguise work and fail? When does sneaking work and fail? How comes I can sometime strangle people and sometimes not? Why can’t I use my syringe in certain situations? I’m not sure. It’s good fun, but I couldn’t quite connect with it. Maybe I’d learn if I spent longer playing.
And sneaking really needs to be a toggle. Holding the trigger button down the whole time hurts my finger. Poor me.
Super Monkey Ball Deluxe
May 3rd
Did about three levels and then realised I just wasn’t in the mood.
I kept trying to control the camera with the right stick and got confused when it didn’t work. Which is very strange as Monkey Ball’s never had any camera control like that.
Taito Arcade Legends

Well, since I last posted about this game I’d sorted out the widescreen issue. Seems that when I start a game on my Xbox it flicks to widescreen if the TV programme being shown on my cable box is widescreen, usefully. So to play a game in the normal 4:3 aspect ratio I have to change the channel on the cable box to one I know it broadcasting in 4:3 (and which doesn’t switch to 16:9 for adverts).
Anyway, I tried some of the lesser known titles on this compilation. They were all, with the exception of Plump Pop, rubbish.
Chu Chu Rocket

GBA version.
Been so long since I played that I reset the records and then started puzzle mode from the beginning. Got twenty-seven done before Telewest turned up to tell me that they couldn’t fix my TV Drive and I have to wait for a software update some time this month.
Smash TV

Ha, nice one. When I started it I got a “disconnected from Xbox Live” message, followed by a “you must download an update to play this game or you will be disconnected from Live” message. But it couldn’t download the update, because it already had disconnected me from Live. So I had to ignore the message, continue on into the game, sign in to Xbox Live, which then prompted the download message again, but this time it could actually download the update, because I was connected. Did you get that?
Wandered through the first one and a half levels slamming the continue button every five seconds.
Got some achievements along the way, including the high score one. (Score doesn’t reset when you continue, making it rather pointless.)
Oddly, my Xbox Live Leaderboard score is completely different from the in-game score. No idea what’s going there.

A couple of levels more.
It’s bloody exhausting and too much for me this evening.
Geometry Wars 2
May 1st
One of those days where every go is worse than the last.
And the first one wasn’t all that great.
I’m currently trying to download the Bankshot Billiards 2 demo, but Live is still slow as shite. Weird.
Zuma
May 1st
Got to level 8-4.
Better, but not good enough.
Xbox Live is being all slow and timing out when trying to get leaderboards and stuff.
Bah.
