A Gaming Diary
PS3
Pain (PS3)
Sep 28th
I didn’t so much play this as jab buttons while it was on the TV. Didn’t get any sort of score worth mentioning.
The Last Guy (PS3)
Sep 28th
This is very good. Hard, but good. Done the first three levels and didn’t get more than one star oon any of them.
WipEout HD (PS3)
Sep 28th
This has been a bad weekend. Fever, accidental defecation in trousers (twice!), headache, chills, aching legs, etc.
One thing that has helped distract me a bit is WipEout HD, which I believe I love. It is, as far as it goes, perfect, I think. Graphics are lovely, controls are great, sound is brilliant, difficulty is just right.
It’s very good indeed.
Pain (PS3)

Tried out the new Amusement Park level quickly before work. Seems the log flume is the way to rack up the points, as you can keep moving for a long time.
Didn’t get enough points to get any Trophies, though – if indeed there are any for this level.
Mega Man 9 Demo (PS3)
Sep 26th
It’s a NES game. Only it was made this year. And it’s on the PS3. I approve of this, but I won’t be buying it.
Partly because it’s seven quid, which is quite a lot of money. But mostly because it seems to be even harder than the old Mega Man games I’ve played.
Ouch.
WipEout HD (PS3)
Sep 26th
If you want to download things from the Playstation Network, 6:30am seems to be a good time to do it. My download flew. Pity the install then took several years…
Anyway, I leapt in and told the game that I was returning WipEout player, so I didn’t need the autopilot help. I then proceeded to crash into several thousand walls in my first race and came sixth out of eight. Oops. I tried again – still without autopilot – and came first. Hooray! That gave me my first ever Trophy, which was nice.
Then I tried a Zone race, but only got a silver. Ah well.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (PS3)
Sep 21st
Started and completed in one thoroughly enjoyable seven-and-a-half hour session.
Bit buggy, but generally solid. Lots of stormtroopers to kill. No complaints here. (Apart from having to play the PS3 version because the 360 version was out of stock. Still, I assume they’re pretty much the same.)
The Last Guy Demo (PS3)
Aug 30th
A game! On the PS3! And it’s a good one!
It’s basically Google Earth meets Pac-Man meets Snake. (Nokia Snake, rather than Solid Snake.) You’re a tiny superhero guy and you have to fly around real streets rescuing people from zombies. As you get more and more people the trail behind you gets longer and longer. Do you take people back to the safe zone to get rid of your trail? Or do you let the trial get long so you don’t waste time running to the safe zone and back? Do you stick to main roads or try to take shortcuts through alleys that may or may not let you through? Etc.
I’m very tempted by the full game. I do wish the demo had more than one level, I’d like to know if the game gets too hard, or ends after a few short levels, or whatever.
Singstar (PS3)
Aug 3rd
No new songs today, but the wife and I rocked some old ones. We beat our previous high scores on just about every track we played. I’m not sure what was special about today, but I seemed to be just a little better than normal. I still can’t hit a single note in some songs though. Not sure why, but Losing My Religion is just impossible for me. And the less said about The Greatest Love of All the better.
PixelJunk Eden Demo (PS3)
Jul 27th
Well, that’s a surprise. Didn’t know what this was, but it appears to be a mix of LocoRoco, Wik and Flow. Or something. Some frustration when you get really high only to miss a jump and fall all the way back down to the bottom of the level, but otherwise it’s completely lovely once you get used to the controls.
I am most definitely interested in the full version now.
