Racer got a big update over weekend. Two new game modes and unlockable cars.
To be fair, mind, the two new game modes are pretty much the same. Career mode has you collecting stars while avoiding traffic. Get enough stars and you move on to the next level, sometimes unlocking a new car. Slalom mode has you collecting stars, but isn’t split into levels. Like the existing modes, it simply gradually gets harder the longer you play.
There are some complaints from people about the starting car being made less responsive to make the unlockable cars more appealing, but I can’t say I noticed any difference. (It’s been quite a while since I last played the game.)
It’s still sweet little gaming treat – it sits happily in a coveted position on my first page of games – and I like the extra modes.
(Especially as the scoreboards got reset when the game got updated, so I managed a fairly respectable position on one of them.)

Waiting for computer to reboot after installing updates, needed something quick to play. Racer seemed to fit the bill. Fun, games don’t last very long, haven’t played for a while. So, started it up and proceeded to get my best score ever.
I should install security updates more often.
Of course, when I checked how I was doing on the global leader board I’d lost nearly a hundred places, even with my improved score, but I’m used to that sort of thing these days.

Hooray! I finally managed to get a screen shot with a few cars on the screen.
Of course, I died a couple of milliseconds later, but that’s the price I pay for eye candy for my blog. On another go, though, I managed to get a new high score. I had been in 535th place in the world when I last checked, so I synced my scores with the global server again and waited with baited breath to see what position I’d be in with my new score.
Oh.
Bother.
I guess the world has moved on without me.

One of those incredibly simple games that packs a hugely addictive punch.
Cars scroll down the screen, you slide your finger left and right so your car avoids them. That’s it.
It’s very polished, has online leaderboards (I was 535th in the world for Normal mode, last I checked) and I keep going back to it.
I really think you should go and buy it now. I was very sceptical when I read about it, thinking it looked a bit too simplistic to be worth even 59p, but it’s great. Take my word for it.
