Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max

Ohhhhhhhh, I think I see.
Each character can only appear in the high score table once. I wondered why it seemed to be letting me enter my intials after some games and not others.
I nearly got to the fourth round of Arcade mode just now. Nearly. But not quite. Fucking Cammy.
I’m wondering if I should learn to use a character who’s not Ryu. His basic moves are nice and simple and part of my gaming hardware after all these years.
Manual lists all the specials for all the characters, though, rather than telling you to go buy the strategy guide, which is nice. Good Capcom.
I remember buying UFC for the Dreamcast and the manual for that had biographical detail for all the fighters (height, weight, birthplace, etc.) and told you to buy the strategy guide to find out how to actually control them in game. I was, and remain, disgusted.

So, I put it on for a quick go and choose random on the Arcade mode select screen.
The game gave me a V-ism Guile.
Gee, thanks.
I started it up and Blanka kicked my face off in the first round.

I can get up to the third battle of Arcade mode when the speed’s normal using Ryu. Second using anyone else.
This is really, really good stuff. A reason to own the PSP again! Hooray!

So I found the option to turn the speed down to normal. Tried Arcade mode again. Won my first fight and then got my face beaten off in the second. I can’t even remember who by.
Then I, foolishly really, tried a Reverse Dramatic Battle. My Ryu took on Ryu and Ken and I beat them both. Then I had to face Guy and Maki, who beat my face off in double quick time.
Ah well. I’m losing and I’m rubbish and my fun hurts, but this is great. And the PSP screen makes the graphics look beautiful. (I have, of course, turned widescreen mode off so the fighters don’t look like they’ve been hitting the pies.)

Possibly the greatest thing ever to appear on this earth.
Except I’m awful at it. I can’t even get past the first round at the default Turbo 2 speed. (Not using continues.)
I’ve spent some time in training mode and I’m much better there, though I can’t even pull off Dragon Punches and Fireballs with any degree of real precision. And super specials are very, very hit or miss.
And that PSP d-pad has hurt my thumb horribly.

I failed a mission! I was runing from the cops and my car blew up. I got out, but my passenger didn’t. Ah well. I went exploring instead. Found a sniper rifle, so had a nice MWA HA HA HA HA moment and then went home for my tea.
As you do.

This is odd. I’m normally rubbish at missions in GTA games, but I’ve done loads now and I’ve had to redo one of them, as far as I can remember. I’m sure the difficultly level will ramp up soon, but it’s been fun so far.
Just protected a casino from a rival game, which I just managed to scrape through. Okay, so it’s been designed so you can only just manage to scrape through it, but still. I’ve quite enjoyed the missions so far, actualy, rather than finding them necessary evils.
Most of them have been in-car missions, mind. On foot, things just get random.

Wow. Actually did some missions.
I ‘whacked’ some people ina construction site, then helped someone collect money from his ladies of the evening (which involved beating a couple of pimps to death with a baseball bat) and then rescued some of the family from a gas station hold up that had gone horribly wrong.
And people say these games are violent!
Only playing because the batteries in my DS decided to die and because I’m feeling to lazy to play Shadow of the Colossus. It’s a good filler game.

Yes, it’s easy to be a bit sniffy and point out the flaws.
But there’s also no denying that starting vigilante missions when you’ve got a three star wanted rating results in some of the best fun it’s possible to have with a video game.
