Got myself a cleric with a green mage pupil after farming easy mana from the tutorial level.
Inefficient, but easy to do while watching TV.

Blast from the past! In the years since I last played there seems to have been a leaderbooard reset. Got up to 315th in the world in a few minutes. More a testament to how few people have bought the Xtreme mode DLC than my own skills, I think.

Lots of bugs today, including one console lock-up, but it saves checkpoints to the save file, so I managed to make it through the huge “Get Solano” mission. Tanks, helicopters, jeeps – I used pretty much every type of vehicle to get through it.
Also: Artillery.

Um, yes. I’m probably not taking my PSP on holiday, you see, but I’ll need Disgaea. And I was curious. And I just love Disgaea and seem to need every single version ever. (Although, somehow, the sequels don’t count. I’ve got the second game, but have never played, and haven’t ordered the third one.)
Anyway, I started a new game. Shame the initial “Etna waking Laharl” stuff isn’t skippable, but the story sections before each levels can be avoided. I’ve done a few early levels, but haven’t created any new characters as of yet. (I think in this game I don’t want to create anyone less than “Average”, which is going to require a fair bit of Mana.) A cleric will be first, followed by a rogue, then one of each of the mages. Not sure where I’ll go after that.
First impressions are that it’s a little rough, graphically, both in terms of the sprites and the movement, but nothing that hurts things too badly. A lot of sound seems to have been cut out, but nothing I care about. (I tend to play with sound off, anyway, in the PSP version.) The buttons and interface are the same as ever. The view is cramped compared to the glorious widescreen loveliness of the PSP version, but the top screen map is very useful indeed and is a good trade. In fact, after playing this version for a bit, the lack of map in the other versions may make them unplayable. We’ll see.
Pity I can transfer my save between the PSP and DS versions, but never mind. I’m only actually about twenty-five hours into the PSP version in all the time I’ve had it, which is nothing in Disgaea terms. (I’ve played it on many occasions, but not for very long each time.)

So, I went and leveled up the good gun in Item World. Enemies got stronger than me towards the end, but nothing I couldn’t handle. I was especially fond of the “getting to the exit in one turn by throwing a huge stack of people” trick.

Into Item World, to level up a gun. Pointless, really, as even leveled up it was no match for the gun Mina was currently using, which is already full of specialists. Ah well. Still, leveled up a few times.
I seem to be doing the opposite of power leveling, I’m just, I dunno, meandering, or something. But I like it that way.

One quick level between WipEout and The L-Word, rescuing people in Germany. Failed the first time I tried as I ran into a zombie in a move that even Jimmy McNulty would find a bit too idiotically self-destructive, but got it the second time. And then it was time to turn the TV to Living 2 to see Shane get herself into trouble again and Helena make a new friend.

I LOVE THIS GAME.
It’s just utterly superb and hours pass like nothing as I inch closer and closer to new medals.
Time trials started proving tricky, so I’ve moved my loyalties from AG to Assegai, because I think they’re slightly faster. After a good while banging into walls far too much I’m starting to get used to the handling and I’ve improved some medals and got some new ones.
Fantastic stuff.

Some chaps over on BETEO have been playing this so I dug old my registration code and joined them for a game last night.
I was the USA and allied with South Asia. This alliance lasted the whole game, more due to having more important targets than any real sense of loyalty, I think. I started the game and failed to notice that South America was actually in the game, so had a bit of a surprise when I was attacked from that direction – having already lost most of my navy to the Russians.
The guy playing the Russians then dropped out due to a bad connection and a CPU player took over. Which was a bit annoying, as the CPU then went on to win handily against the four remaining human players. Only South America put up a proper fight.
I ended up coming third – a huge strike against Russia from my fleet of subs in the North Sea saw to that – but that third was a long, long way behind the top two players.
Denver and Memphis were the only two American cities not to be hit with nukes. I think I ended up losing eighty percent of my population, but at least I did some damage.
Excellent fun and I hope to play again as soon as possible.

It’s very, very good. Not much different from the other recent Lego games, but that’s no bad thing.
I played through the first Hero story and only stopped because I was physically unable to play any more.
