Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection (PSP)
Mar 28th
Awwwww. I’ve been playing through the modes I need to post a score in to get an online ranking and I’ve come to Command Attack. This gives you a move to do, followed by another, and another, and another… etc. You get the idea. Unfortunately, I can’t do a lot of the moves. I don’t have the kind of brain that can perform a ten hit aerial combat. I just don’t.
I’m a bit upset now.

While my wife played this on the PS3, I played the PSP version. Doesn’t look as pretty, but there’s more to do. I got through the first dojo with Jack-5 and then updated my ghost online. Maybe one day people will be able to download it and beat me up, while laughing at the ineptitude.

Ah, Jack-5. Overpowered to the very max. I couldn’t beat him, so I fought as him and had great fun. I worked out a few moves, went up in rank a few times and bought some nice cosmetic upgrades.
Now my wife has taken over again and is playing as Lili. She seems to be enjoying herself. I’m thinking of digging out the PSP version. Not as shiny, but the single player game is more fleshed out.
Next weekend I think we might use the last of my Gamestation credit note for another controller.
In case you’d not noticed, we are loving this new console. It’s not got a great range of games yet and it’s very expensive, but the games we have are all great fun and it’s just a lovely, shiny piece of kit. Apart from not charging the controllers when in standby mode and having an insulting short charging cable that doesn’t reach the wife’s side of the sofa from the console, of course. Bad Sony.

This is marvellous. Can’t remember any of the moves from my time on the PSP version, but never mind. It’s really great fun, but I’ve got up to what I presume is a boss as he’s incredibly annoying and I can’t beat him. I had a few goes and gave up.

Crikey.
I played Story Mode as Lili, which was easy enough until the final boss, who took about 45 minutes to defeat. He’s got attacks that kill two-thirds of your life bar at once. And other attacks that restore his health. I hate him.
But beating him unlocked Tekken Bowl, which is a cool bowling mini-game, that rewards me with money far more quickly than fighting. My best score is 148 and I was having a good time. Unfortunately, it’s now time for a recharge. Stupid PSP battery.

Well, I’m now ranked thirteenth out of sixty in first dojo. Losing lots of matches, though.
And I’ve discovered the very comprehensive training mode. I’ve been looking through Lili’s move list and trying to do the moves. They’re mostly reasonable enough, but there are five or six at the bottom of the list that are just stupid.

Been a while since I played a Tekken.
This is slightly overwhelming in terms of sheer amount of stuff.
About sixteen billion characters available and a load of different modes.
After going through basic training – which isn’t of much use if you’ve ever played a fighting game before – I chose a Quick Battle and ended up being a panda. My opponent was a polar bear. I lost. Very quickly.
Then I went to Story Mode and chose the default character, Lili, and went through a few fights until some penguins distracted me by being cute and sliding on their bellies and Jack-5 ripped me apart.
Next up I went into Tekken Dojo mode, which wasn’t explained very well, but which seems to be very similar to Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution’s big single player mode. I set it on easy and after winning five matches in a row as Lili I’m now a 9th kyu. Which is a rank of some sort.
Anyway, modes and penguins aside, it seems very slick and good fun, though I’m only one step up from button mashing right now.
