Animal Crossing: Let’s Go To The City (Wii)
Jan 22nd
Chow lost his key. Had to catch a million fish before finding it – on a day when Nook’s was closed. Sob.
Peggle Extreme (PC)

Free. New. Peggle.
New. Peggle. Free.
PEGGLE!
(Okay, I know it’s not new, at all, but it hasn’t been free for all that long and it’s new to me. Only ten levels, but ten free levels of Peggle are worth a million free levels of, um, something rubbish.)
Animal Crossing: Let’s Go To The City (Wii)

Didn’t play until after Nook’s was shut for the night and he’s going to be shut all day today for remodelling, so I didn’t do much. Pottered about, made a delivery, poked at my wife’s Yoshi egg, etc.
Trials 2: Second Edition (PC)

An actual 3D game! Runs very smoothly and seems fun, in a slightly QWOP-like way. Only testing out for five minutes – in a slightly less-slumped position, but not exactly upright – doesn’t make for much to blog about.
Doom (PC)

Another game I played on my sparkling new NC10 last night. Ran fine, as you’d expect, but I had trouble with the controls. Doom was wonderful before all those extra keys got shoved into the bottom row of the keyboard.
Again, though, my slumped position probably didn’t help.

A great idea, a roguelike 2D platform game. Rick Dangerous meets NetHack, or something.
However, I found the controls very hard to use… but that may have been because I was slumped down with my laptop resting on my chest, so couldn’t actually see the keyboard. I think I’ll try again in a sitting position.
OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast (PSP)

Heart Attack mode, no new high scores or anything. Not much to blog about, really.
Rock Band (360)

Picked this up after a long hiatus. Played a lot of the solo career, but the real fun came in World Tour mode. Team BB are back on the road! We played Seattle, London and Los Angeles, winning many new fans now we’ve put the difficulty up to Medium.
The best thing about the whole weekend, though, was finally managing to do Enter Sandman on Medium. That killed me last time I played.
Worst thing about the weekend? Having to play Highway Star – twice. Horrible.
Savage Moon (PS3)

I’ve played tower defence games on the web. I’ve played them on my iPod. Now I’ve played one on my PS3. It doesn’t do anything amazing to the formula, based on the first few levels, but it’s slick, playable and reasonably addictive. Which may sound like faint praise, but it’s really not. If you’ve a hankering for a traditional tower defence game – I’m not sure PixelJunk Monsters counts – then this comes highly recommended.
Also helps if you’re a fan of the Starship Troopers movie, because it’s very clear where the inspiration for the insectoid enemies came from.
(I said “movie”, yes. I’ve not seen any of the sequels and am not sure if they’d count.)

Several un-blogged days in McNulty, nothing much to show for it. I’ve got some new clothes and some new furniture, but mainly I’ve just been enjoying the lovely, quiet atmosphere, where bad things don’t happen and stress doesn’t exist. In that way, I think Animal Crossing is the most escapist of all games.
